SLIDE 06 GERSHWIN HOTEL ENTRY

Stefan Lindfors designed a series of eloquent translucent stained-glass-style teardrop fireballs and awnings for the face of the Gershwin Hotel in New York, enlisting Kyle to make the resplendent fixtures into reality. Kyle was flown to New York and housed on site in the hotel while he created the pieces, fabricating most of the structures outside on the hotel's sidewalk -- hauling a welder out and hand-forming the stainless spiderweb armatures, then later hand-hanging the fireballs on the hotel's face. The finished lighted entryway pieces fuse the crisp web of stainless with translucent fiberglass that is lit from within, and the result is daytime filigree-like ornaments, and glowing nighttime jewels.
