Metal Fabricator Job Description

Kyle Minor Design (KMD) is looking for a talented and highly skilled metalworker with an eye for detail to work within a collaborative team environment. We design and build furniture and architectural details (stair cases, retail shops, custom retail fixtures, storefronts, etc…) in a variety of materials; metal, wood, glass/plastics and more.

The ideal candidate:

  • Has a keen aesthetic sense and an impeccable eye for detail

  • Is capable taking projects from layout to completion in both ferrous and non-ferrous metals

  • Is experienced and knowledgeable about machining (mill, lathe, drill, tap, sharpen)

  • Is experienced and knowledgeable in a range of welding techniques (penetration, structural, and cosmetic)

  • Has experience forming and bending metals (blacksmithing, roller/bender, press etc)

  • Takes pride and ownership in finished results

  • Is eager to learn and develop new techniques and processes for new challenges

  • Willing to lend a hand whatever the job may be

  • Has some wood fabrication experience and understands basic wood fabrication

  • Is comfortable integrating metal with other materials (wood, glass, acrylic, stone, etc.)

  • Understands that all tasks are part of the company’s success and culture

  • Can prioritize and execute tasks with minimal supervision

  • Is able to keep focused on the big picture, even during small detail oriented tasks

  • Always brings a positive, focused, energetic and flexible attitude to work

Responsibilities:

  • Fabrication prep - reading shop drawings, layout, material prep, and welding prep

  • Fabrication - cutting, drilling, machining, assembly, welding, soldiering, and brazing

  • Finishing - sanding, graining, surface prep, patina, and finishing

  • Loading and delivering materials, tools and work

  • Installing projects - site prep, installation, clean-up

  • Shop maintenance - cleaning, organizing, maintaining tools and equipment


Required Qualifications:

  • 4+ years of experience in architectural or sculptural metalwork

  • Exceptional skill with metal fabrication procedures and characteristics

  • Exceptional skill with shop equipment: tig and mig welder, lathe, mill, cold saw, etc…

  • Comprehension of detailed shop drawings and principles of layout

  • Comfortable working in both a shop and site environment

  • Ability to lift at least 50 lbs

  • Stellar communication skills

  • Constant professionalism

  • Work well independently and as part of a team

Position Details

Title: Metal Fabricator

Type: Full-Time Position

Hourly Rate: Based on experience.

Additional benefits: Paid vacation and sick leave. Retirement contribution system. Monthly health insurance stipend. Annual bonus structure based on the individual’s success and overall success of the company

Working Hours: M-F 6:30am - 2:30pm (subject to change). Saturdays and Sundays as required by workload
